St. Philip’s 大学 students, 教师, 工作人员, and administrators joined thousands of 圣安东尼奥 community members for the 28th 年度凯撒E. Chavez 3月 for Justice held on 3月 23, 2024.

To prepare for the march and to foster a deeper understanding of social injustices, the Mexican American Studies Program in collaboration with the First Year Experience Program and SPC 图书馆, hosted the Cesar Chavez 3月 Poster Party on both campuses. During these events, students created posters, viewed educational films about the Chicano Movement, and engaged with library guides.

The march began with an opening ceremony, which featured welcome remarks by local elected officials and ended with a dove release. With school banners and posters held high, the college community walked for two miles to honor the legacy of the American labor leader and civil rights activist.

Nearly 30 SPC participants were joined by Congressman Joaquin Castro, Bexar县 Judge Peter Sakai and 阿拉莫大学 区 Board Trustee Joe Alderete, Jr.

“Participating in the Cesar Chavez 3月 hits so 关闭 to home. As the grandson of migrant workers, I say that the march for justice embodies the very values that we should all know and understand: fairness and equality for all workers, regardless of what you do. I was proud to march with SPC and know they support the cause of equality and justice for all,” said Administrative Services Specialist Ryan Garza.

At the end of the march, participants were invited to a celebration with music, 快餐车, and guest speakers at the Hemisphere Park.
